This video takes an intimate, detailed look at the masterpiece created between 1460 and 1480 by master sculptor Erhard Küng. What fascinates me most is the incredible expressiveness preserved in these figures—the deep serenity of the righteous, the fierce determination of the golden-winged angels, and the agonizing despair of the damned. It remains a miraculous survivor of the Protestant Reformation, surviving an iconoclasm that destroyed so much other historical religious art. I wanted to capture the striking visual contrast between its vibrant colors and the stoic stone structure that cradles it."
